Jade Hotels has won the backing of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) for a 300-room hotel in Chatham Maritime. The Chatham Maritime Hotel, due to open by late 2003, will offer extensive conference facilities and create up to 300 jobs for the area. Chatham Maritime is a 350-acre mixed-use commercial, residential and leisure development on the banks of the Medway, and is one of the largest government-supported regeneration projects outside London. The site is due for completion by 2008. Meanwhile SEEDA is also in talks with an operator for a leisure development on the site, but declined to confirm details of any proposals while discussions are taking place.
